Vintage 1991 (Cliniced 2016)
97 points Huon Hooke. Typical Grange power and concentration, now nicely mature. A crushed-ant/formic acid note on the nose is typical of Grange of this era (some tasters objected to perceived volatility). A touch of mint in the background. A superb wine, from a stand-out vintage of this famous wine.
Winemaker comments by John Duval
COLOUR A glorious, dark, dense, red purple colour.
NOSE The rich bouquet shows an incredible depth of ripe berry spice, tobacco, mocha and green tea aromas with unmistakable Penfolds oak handling.
PALATE The palate has intensely concentrated, mouthfilling fruit flavours showing spicy, rich berry fruit and earthy characters with masses of ripe tannins and integrated oak, finishing with excellent length.
