Vintage 2023

95 points - Steve Leszczynski - QWine "Like the Viognier, Tim Smith’s delicate touch is evident and his fingerprints are clearly all over this Mataro – and there is a thumbprint on the label for the win. What a brilliant wine this is. Usually the bridesmaid or copilot, Mataro done well is an excellent drink. Check this release out to exemplify that. Scents of blue and purple flowers, cola and sarsaparilla spill from the glass and invite you to stay longer. Vibrant red and dark berries waltz about to be partnered by dried herbs, a little char and meatiness plus some cool mint appeal. What I do love is the plushness of the purple fruit which has me seeking more time and again. What a superb expression of Mataro – go here."

A blend of usually two vineyards from the floor of the Barossa Valley, one of them around 140 years of age, the other about 70 years of age. I age my Mataro in larger format older French barrels – usually 500 litre puncheons to slow down the maturation and decrease the oak influence.
