Vintage 2023
This excellent Barossa Mataro from Tim Smith displays classic dark fruit, spices and savoury notes the variety is known for. Silky tannins and freshness on the palate makes it surprisingly versatile. There’s good structure for aging if you want to cellar it away, but it’s supple enough to drink now and enjoy.
"Like the Viognier, Tim Smith’s delicate touch is evident and his fingerprints are clearly all over this Mataro – and there is a thumbprint on the label for the win. What a brilliant wine this is. Usually the bridesmaid or copilot, Mataro done well is an excellent drink. Check this release out to exemplify that. Scents of blue and purple flowers, cola and sarsaparilla spill from the glass and invite you to stay longer. Vibrant red and dark berries waltz about to be partnered by dried herbs, a little char and meatiness plus some cool mint appeal. What I do love is the plushness of the purple fruit which has me seeking more time and again. What a superb expression of Mataro – go here." Steve Leszczynski, QWine (95 points)
