The fruit was machine harvested at flavour ripeness and then gently crushed to ferment. Fermentation on skins in static fermenters lasted between 7-9 days. Following fermentation, the wine was gently pressed off skins and then matured on French oak for several months before being blended and bottled.

The colour is a brilliant dark red with vibrant purple hues. Intensely aromatic, the Houghton Shiraz displays bright and enticing berry fruit flavours of blueberry, raspberry and cherries. Light floral hints are combined with fresh spices – vanilla, nutmeg and white pepper.

    I’ve been singing the praises of these bargain stripe reds, and the 2020 had me scratching my head once more, wondering how they do it. This is a serious Shiraz with gorgeous fruit and the shape to carry it. The texture is smooth and the finish firm with fine tannins. 93+ points.
